Provided technical assistance, training and project management services
to:
- Build
the capacity of eleven state associations of microenterprise nonprofits.
- Build
the capacity of nonprofit organizations of Washoe and Storey counties
of Nevada.
- Develop
a state association for nonprofits in Nevada
- Build
the capacity of nine California community action agencies to operate
earned income activities.
- Build
the capacity of sixteen California community action agencies to expand
their asset building programs
California
Association for Microenterprise Opportunity (CAMEO), Oakland, CA 1997–2006
Chief Executive Officer
- Served
as the CEO of this statewide association of agencies, non-profits, funders,
and individuals dedicated to microenterprise development in California—led
activities to educate the public regarding the community benefits of
successful microenterprises; helped build the capacity of organizations
dedicated to microenterprise development; and built CAMEO from a small
consortium of nonprofits to the largest state microenterprise association
in the nation with 130 organizational members and a budget of over $500,000.
- Directed
several successful advocacy campaigns for the field of microenterprise
development in California—achieved the signing into law of
SB 1156 in 2004; and initiated an accepted state resolution to make
October microenterprise development month in 2005.
- Led
a public education campaign in 2000 to increase local funding for microenterprise
development for welfare recipients—netted over $2 million
for nonprofit programs.
- Developed
an innovative model known as the Virtual Peer Learning Cluster—responded
to need for affordable, accessible, and effective capacity-building
programs for the 130 microenterprise nonprofits throughout California;
utilized technology, goal-driven learning, peer consultants, and support
networks to affect organizational change and build nonprofit capacity;
earned recognition award in 2005 from CEDLI/CARAT for Innovation in
Technical Assistants Performance and Service.

- Founded
Bay Area Entrepreneur Association, a nonprofit dedicated to providing
business education, networking, and support to new entrepreneurs—served
in executive roles providing leadership to network leaders, volunteers,
and the Board of Directors for the many regularly scheduled and special
events with opportunities to showcase businesses and talents of association
members.
